Course Mark Calculator
List each test, assignment or exam with its weight. Leave the mark blank for work you haven't got back. You get your mark so far, and the average you need on the rest to reach your goal.
How to use it
- Add each piece of work with the percentage of the course it is worth.
- Enter your mark for the ones you have back.
- Enter the final mark you want to see what you need on everything else.
How it is worked out
Your mark so far is a weighted average: each mark times its weight, added up, then divided by the total weight of the work you have marks for.
To reach a target, the calculator works out how many of the course's 100 points you have already earned and how many are still available, then divides what you still need by what is left.
Common questions
What if my weights don't add up to 100?
The calculator treats whatever is missing as work still to come. If your weights add to more than 100, it uses their total as the whole course.
How is a weighted mark different from a simple average?
A simple average counts every mark equally. A weighted mark counts a test worth 20% four times as much as a quiz worth 5%, which is how your teacher calculates the course mark.
