How the Best 6 is calculated
- Only Grade 12 University (U) and University/College (M) courses are eligible. College (C) and Open (O) courses are left out.
- Your six highest eligible marks are averaged. Half-credit courses count for half as much.
- If a program requires a course, that course must be one of the six, even when another mark is higher.
- Until your Grade 12 marks exist, universities look at your Grade 11 U/M marks for early offers.
Common questions
What is the Best 6 (top six) average?
Ontario universities calculate your admission average from your six best Grade 12 University (U) or University/College (M) courses, including any prerequisites the program requires. Marks in other courses are not counted.
Do Grade 11 marks count?
Final offers are based on Grade 12 U/M courses. Grade 11 marks matter for early offers, which are made before most Grade 12 marks exist, so a strong Grade 11 top six helps you get an offer sooner.
Do College (C) or Open (O) courses count?
No. Only University (U) and University/College (M) courses are used. This calculator ignores C and O courses when it picks your top six.
Does a prerequisite have to be in my top six?
Yes. If a program requires a course such as Calculus or English, that course is included in your six even if another mark is higher. Check each program's required courses.
